Basic Putting Tips
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is home to a number of fine golf courses. Here are some tips that will help keep your blood pressure low while on the green.
The first thing that needs to be considered is the slope of the green. Depending on whether it is a downhill, uphill, side slope or combination will determine on the intensity of your strike, all else equal.
The faster the ball is rolling, the less the ball will break. Break refers the ball's tendency to switch course. Therefore, the harder a ball is hit the more straight it will go; the softer the more susceptible to break.
It is recommended to hit the ball so that it would pass the hole by a foot and half. This will allow the ball to break at a later point, closer to the hole. You should envision where you would like the ball to break. This should become your target. On a downhill putt gravity has more of an effect, therefore you will need to hit ball softer. This type of putt will have more break. You will need to compensate for this. This is the opposite for uphill putts; less break. In this situation it is necessary to putt harder to compensate for the pull of gravity. This type of putt and the upslope will have less break. For a side slope you will need to pay careful attention to the slope. You will need to determine whether the side slope is more like a downhill or uphill slope. You will then assess what you have learned above and apply it to this situation.
